How long do packaged items from a Food Saver stay packaged and airtight?

Once an item is vacuumed, assuming you did it properly, how long does that item stay airtight in the plastic casing? I vacuumed some non perishables and plan on keeping them in the plastic for years to age them, but they need to be without air.
Has anyone ever vacuumed something with a Food Saver in the plastic sleeves and kept an item for months or years? If so, how long until air leaked into the bag, if ever?
